Heteronormativity describes a Gender system, where exactly two genders (male and female) exist and where heterosexuality is seen as normal. Heterosexuality functions as social order and structures the social life of everybody (family life, socialisation etc., and thinking in dualism as general approach), regardless of which sexual orientation or gender a person is. Heterosexuality is the norm; everything else is seen as an abnormality.
